Caring looks like compassion.
This week I heard a teacher say God wants us to care.
She pointed out that one of the first ways He introduces Himself to man in Exodus 34:6 is that he is Compassionate.
He is cares. We should care too.

In this adventure thriller, Connections, Sandy and her best friend found missing relatives, spied on cheating spouses and caught a few bail jumpers. This private investigator never imagined the bad guys would chase her.

Sample Chapter
Back in the hood, Sandy drove up and parked on Morrison Street. She parked in front of a payday loan store, on Main Street in her hood. There were corner stores and other small businesses, but there were also abandoned buildings and vacant lots. The recession took its toll. She looked for the one person who could help her business grow.
Sandy knew that there were a few folks who helped her get new cases. Chewy Dias was one of them. Sandy got out of her car and walked over to a tall thin African-American man in a pair of freshly pressed jeans, a Dallas Cowboy jersey with number nine on it and a light jacket, Chewy Dias. He stood next to a very large African-American woman in her late thirties, Doretha Sims. She had on a cloth coat and a tattered red scarf.
“What you got Chewy?” Sandy called out to him.
“This is Doretha Sims,” he said pointing at each one with the Monster in his hand. “She is looking for her brother.”
“What’s your brother do?” Sandy asked
“DD, this is Sandy, the one I told you about.”
“Nothing. He ain’t done nothing his whole life,” Doretha said concerned. “But he owed some folk some money. I think something bad has happened to him.”
“I can look into it for you, but it will cost you five hundred dollars to find him.”
“Five hundred?”
“If you want him, it will be five hundred.”
“Well, okay,” Doretha said.
“I need my money up front,” Sandy said.
“Up front? What if you don’t find him?”
“I’ll find him.”
And if you don’t find him.”
“If I don’t find him, I will give you a partial refund.”
“Partial?”
“Time and gas you don’t get back.”
That was the problem of working with poor people; they didn’t understand the value of someone else’s time and effort, Sandy thought.

Art of the Quarter
This quarter history focuses on slavery which is just a portion of history.
As African kingdoms begin to rise and fall on the continent, outsiders begin to creep in with eyes on the treasures throughout the land.
In 1200, Mali Empire rises under Sunjata Keita and after 1250 expands to the Atlantic coast.
In 1324, Mansa Musa, emperor of Mali, pilgrimages to Mecca.
In 1413, Portuguese voyagers landed on the African Coast.
By 1444, the first African captives were sold in Europe.
Toby Green in Fistful of Shells wrote that medieval Europeans named African regions based on “commodities on offer for exchange…Ivory Coast, Grain Coast (modern Liberia) and the Slave Coast (between modern Benin and southwestern Nigeria).” Green said it became a continent thought of in terms of what could be extracted or consumed. Europeans were not the only ones who thought of the continent in that way, because trade routes to the middle east existed before the Europeans came.
Affirmation
I care. I am concerned and interested in what happens. It is easy to not care about people you don’t know. Or people who are not like you.
But this month, let’s all care everybody.
