She met Hector Rios at Del Finos, an Italian restaurant on a better side of town. She always chose restaurants she had not been to, in case her client acted a fool. She wouldn’t feel bad about not returning if they got kicked out.
There was a usual spiel she went through with her clients when she was about to give them bad news, but not this time. Hector was the owner of a very successful carpet cleaning company, but even at 56 years old his mother was very active in his life. She had suspected Hector’s wife of 16 years of being unfaithful. She had hired Sandy to find the truth. Half way through the process, they told Hector about the investigation. They had decided that Hector would be the point person from that point on.
“Hector, she is not the angel you think she is. Don’t open this package until I’m gone. And I don’t plan on sharing it with your mom, even though she was the one who hired me. If anything happens to this woman, copies of these photos will end up with the sheriff.”
“She can’t be that bad. She’s the mother of my child.”
Sandy handed her the envelope.
“Don’t open it until I’m gone,” she said and picked up the check.
She was in the parking lot getting into her car when her phone rang. It was Hector. She hit ignore. People with money might not marry for money, but those without it do. Hector’s mother may have been a busy body, but she was right.

It will be coming to Createspace soon.
Connections is a novel about a private investigator who’s life and business started falling apart before it even got together. Working with her foster sister, they ran into a case and lawyer that blew everything up. Running for her life, Sandy Herrick discovered that God was the only one with her who wasn’t talking smack, trying to kill her or get into her pants. As she and her friends try to figure out who framed them, they all discover that there was more to each other than they thought they knew.
As evil forces closed in on them, they have to determine who they trust and what they believe about each other. Would this be enough to save them?
I want to say Thank you for supporting the Queens project to David Cegelski. You will help me tell the stories of women like Betsy Ross. She triumphed over tragedy after losing two husbands to the Revolutionary War. She continued to run the upholstery business she started with her first husband John Ross, raise her family and support the war. She is also credited with sewing the American Flag.
I want to say Thank You for supporting the Queens project to Bridgette Brown help me tell stories of women like Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, known as the “mother of the freedom movement” was a civil rights activist. She was part of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She was a secretary for the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP and later received a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
I want to say Thank You for supporting the Queens project to Jackie Keller Anderson help me tell stories of women like Sarah Breedlove, who was known as Madame CJ Walker. She was one of the first female millionaires whos business was built to grow hair. She said, “I want the great masses of my people to take a greater pride in their personal appearance and to give their hair proper attention.”
Some days you are running along with life. It is not going the way you want it, but you have learned to make applesauce out of bad apples and lemonade out of not enough lemons.
You have learned to walk with the Lord and pray.
Lord, should I go this way?
Lord, should I do this?
You are walking and working in His will. You are helping the poor, reaching the lost and representing Jesus well.
All of a sudden, the winds pick up and start to blow harshly. It begins pouring rain before you can find shelter. Your car is wrecked, your job is lost, your loved one is ill.
If you like me, you like, I need to check my connection cause He didn’t say anything about this in our morning quiet time. You feel blindsided by God. He didn’t mention this catastrophe when you were chatting.
Laura Story reminds us that sometimes our blessings are in the storms. If you have been praying for something and trouble has taken up residence in your life, look for the blessing. This week in bible study, Moses is surrounded by people who complain and grumble about everything. Can you imagine spending your latter years with a bunch of complainers? They were on their way to the promise land and did not like how God was driving. Eventually all of the complainers died in the dessert and never got to go into the promise land.
Just because you don’t see a way out of your problem, doesn’t mean God hasn’t got it all figured out. Look for the blessings in your storm it will make the journey to the promise land so much better. One of the greatest gifts God gives us is a choice.

Old years pass, new ones come. Sometimes it just seems like another day. Sometimes the day lands on a milestone. 2015 is going to be a milestone for me and I am excited. Amazing things will happen in 2015.
One of the best things I saw on Facebook was “Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.” Life should be filled with ups and downs, with people you love and hate, and places, lots and lots of places.
It is easy to get into a routine and become comfortable with the pattern. It is not our nature to venture out of our safe zones. We tend to like things we can control. I guess I can only speak for me.
I can truthfully say 2014 was not like any other year I had. I was out of my comfort zone often. I experienced things I had not experienced before. God led me through this year, and it was an adventure. Toward the end of the year I prayed “Lord, show me what you want me to know and keep from me things that you do not.” He was faithful.
I have tried to give up understanding everything that happens and have chosen to trust God’s plan. As I raise my daughter, she doesn’t get explanations for everything I teach her. Sometimes she just has to trust me. Sometimes I just have to trust Him.
I have chosen to cherish the memories He has given me and be a blessing when I can. I am a child of the Most High God, (John 1:12) and that is something to rejoice over. Happy New Year Everyone.
Peace and Hair Grease.
Today I am thankful for bible study. I have spent the last 17 years of my life in some type of structured bible study and it has changed my life. There is nothing like a two sided conversation with God. As I pour my life out to Him, He blesses me in ways I have never imagined. He gives me peace when there is turmoil in the world around. He gives me strength when times are tough. He gives me hope.
One of my favorite things about Him, is He loves to laugh. God has the best jokes. They are precious specifically designed for you.
I am very grateful that I serve a God who teaches me about Himself through his word, other Christians and circumstances. He is my vision.
Today I am thankful for family. DNA doesn’t lie. It can prove if there is a blood relation, but it can’t tell you if someone is family. Only time can tell you that. I have spent decades researching my family history and have been connected to thousands of people who may be relatives.
I have found amazing treasures from this research. Some of those gems are a group of folk in Oklahoma who blessed us by coming to our family reunion one year. Through the miracle of Facebook and email we have managed to stay in contact with them.
We have celebrated some of our victories and wept over our heartbreaks. This week was a heartbreak as our cousin Barbara Allen was taken to heaven suddenly.
We always think we are going to have another day to reunion on earth. The real reunion is going to be in heaven when we are all back together again, never more to depart.
My prayer for my family is that not one of us is left behind. It is going to be the Real Family Reunion.
Today I am thankful for worship. I have had the opportunity to worship God with all that I have, physical, emotional and spiritual. Worship has led to a connection with the Savior that few can imagine.
I am thankful that He has given me a heart to want to worship Him. I am thankful that I am not ashamed to worship Him. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to worship Him.
He has taught me I can’t come to Him any old way and throw any type of praise His way. He has taught me that He is holy and must be worshiped by His standards.
I worship Jesus because He is awesome.
